If you live in the San Antonio, Boerne, Spring Branch & surrounding areas - you are likely familiar with raccoons. Raccoons are typically nocturnal animals and are a critter that has adjusted well to urbanization. A raccoon does well around people and they can figure their way into many areas of your home. Raccoons can make their way into your chimney, attic, roof, under a deck or shed, soffit or any other areas they can find. Raccoons can be very destructive. Many times, if a raccoon can't find a way into your attic - they will make a way. Raccoon removal is important to your home if you think raccoons may be living in your attic. The longer you allow raccoons and other wildlife to reside in your attic the more the damage will accumulate. Raccoons can destroy duct work, chimneys, siding, roofing, and many other aspects of your home. If you think you have wildlife is in your home you should contact a professional wildlife & pest control company immediately.
Squirrels a very common critter in many urban environments and the hill country area. Many people like to feed squirrels and other wildlife. Feeding wildlife, such as squirrels, can lead them to spend more time around your home. If squirrels are living near your home it is likely they run on & across your roof to gather acorns, nesting materials, or use it as a bridge to the next tree. This time that squirrels and wildlife spend around your home can lead them into finding their way into your attic. Squirrels are also gnawing critters and many times will chew through wood, shingles, lead flashing, siding, and sometimes even weaker-gauged metals to gain access into your attic. Once inside, squirrels can cause a lot of damage due to chewing on wires, pipes, duct work, framing, and other important materials to your home. Squirrels will look to nest in your attic - expanding the problem from 1-2 squirrels to 5-7 squirrels. That's a lot of chewing! If you think squirrels are living in your attic or home, contact a professional wildlife control & removal company for immediate removal!
Rodents include rats, mice, squirrels, and other nuisance wildlife. Rodents are known for chewing. Rats, mice, and pest like these can get in through smaller gaps than a squirrel. Even though a lot of times - having rats or mice can lead to a squirrel following in their footsteps & opening up the entry point wider. In order to eliminate a pest such as a rat or mice you must be very thorough in your work. Rats, mice, and other small rodents can find their way in through many places such as soffit openings, gable or ridge vents, weep holes, ac lines, electrical or plumbing lines, & other gaps and cracks around your home. Rats and other rodents living in your attic can pose a sanitation and health risk to you and your family due to their urine and feces. It is vital to do exclusion combined with rodent removal to ensure the issue is resolved. If you have heavy rodent pressure near your home - rodent bait boxes are also key to keeping rodent populations out of your home & attic! Contact a professional wildlife and pest removal company quickly if you believe you have rats or other rodents needing removal.
Bats are important critters to ours and the wildlife's world. They consume many pests such as mosquitos, moths, and crop-destroying insects. As wonderful as bats are for the millions of bugs they eat, bats can become a pest themselves if their gain access to your attic! Having a large population of bats living in your home can cause many issues between the wonderful wildlife and your home. Bats are the number one critter that transfers rabies from wildlife to humans. Although not every bat has rabies, with a growing population of bats in your attic you will increase your chances of coming across an injured or sick bat that could possibly carry rabies or another infectious zoonotic disease. Bat guano also has a very distinct smell that can permeate into the living space of your home if a bat colony is left to reside in a home for a long period of time and can also cause health risks. If you are in need of bat removal or suspect bats are living in your attic or chimney, contact a professional wildlife and pest removal company.
Wildlife exclusion is the process of sealing, repairing, and preventing wildlife from entering a structure or area. Such as, an entire home, attic, shed, garage, garden, yard, and areas similar. When performing a wildlife exclusion it is important to understand: the type of animal(s) or wildlife being excluded, the behavior & capabilities of that animal or wildlife, ensuring complete removal of all wildlife from the structure, all areas being excluded of target wildlife, and the means & materials being used to effectively exclude wildlife. Wildlife exclusion is typically performed by a wildlife & pest removal professional. Wildlife commonly being targeted by exclusion are rats, rodents, squirrels, raccoons, bats, armadillos, skunks, opossums, birds, and many other wildlife related pests. Wildlife exclusion is commonly performed in urban, suburban, and rural communities alike. Reason and importance of wildlife exclusion is damage to a person's property, well-being, & health, safety for the wildlife involved in the conflict, & to maintain a healthy human and wildlife relationship. If you needing to perform a wildlife exclusion you must first identify the type of wildlife & how many there are, identify the entry points, and properly seal all areas that wildlife is using to gain access to structure effectively & aesthetically to ensure the problem does not reoccur.

The best way to remove squirrels from your house is by trapping and removal of all squirrels - ensuring that there are no juveniles or other squirrels being left behind. Once all squirrels are removed and you relocate them, you can then repair any damage to the home. It is recommended to seal all areas greater than size of golf ball or areas that are prone to chewing or being opened up more by squirrels.
The best way to keep raccoons, rodents, rats, squirrels, or any other animals out of your yard is by making it less desirable to them. All animals are after 3 things: food, water, and shelter. If you can locate and remove these, you will be less likely to run into raccoon, rodent, rat, or other animal problems needing for removal. However, nothing can guarantee it will keep wildlife from entering your yard. There are many deterrents sold on the market, but I have not found any to be extremely effective for long periods of time. The best thing to do is exclusion to prevent animals entering your attic or your home & remove any food and water sources in your yard!
Left alone, skunk spray could last two to three weeks. To remove the skunk odor mix together: 1 quart of 3-% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap. Use immediately. This mixture chemically reacts with the oils in the skunk spray breaking it down safely and instantly. This mixture works great for your pets or on yourself if you or your pet have been sprayed. Ask me how I know.. https://pethelpful.com/dogs/About-De-Skunking-Best-Ways-To-Get-Rid-Of-Skunk-Odor
Not all bats carry rabies! However, bats are the most common species of wildlife to transfer rabies from animals to humans. Coyotes, foxes, raccoons, and skunks are also common animals that could carry rabies. Here is more information about bats & rabies: https://www.cdc.gov/rabies/prevention/bats.html
If you have found injured wildlife, the best thing to do is call a wildlife rehab facility to receive instructions from them before doing anything! Their information may protect you and the wildlife you are attempting to help. The best resource I have found to locate wildlife rehabbers near me is located at Texas parks and wildlife website. I will share the link here. Once you open the link, select your county and you will get a list of wildlife rehabbers in your area. Look at what wildlife each rehabber deals with and select one that suits your specific need. Most are non-profits and volunteer led so it is best to leave a voicemail if they do not answer the phone right away. https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/wild/rehab/list/
